Coming to Terms

I'm the least organized person I know. I refuse to write anything down and pile all my belongings into random stacks around my office. I also buy (and keep) 40 odd comic books a month. So, naturally, my office is almost always a gang rape of printer paper, empty glasses and wobbly towers of comic books.

In an effort to fix this problem, I birthdayed my way into a set of Drawer Boxes.

It took a couple months, but as of last night, I've put the things to use. My comics are now organized, alphabetized and up off the damn floor.

I should feel good about this. I really should. But... No.

I mean, it worked. My office is clean. My books are in order. And, honestly, it was liberating to weed out two long boxes full of mediocrity.

But GOOD GOD. That's a fuck crate of comics. A person shouldn't literally heft the weight of their own obsessions. It's daunting.

Whatever. I love comics. I love buying them and reading them and I do want to be able to revisit the older stories. I just don't want to think of myself as a manchild packrat.

Maybe next time I'll hire someone to do it for me. That would be EVEN MORE sad but at least I wouldn't have to see it happen.

Storm Chasing

Storm Chasers (the book I'm co-writing with Phil Hester) keeps plugging along. Patrick sends the pages as he gets them done and I'm continually impressed with all the filthy life he manages to cram into his inks. This stuff is not at all what I see in my head when I'm scripting the book but damn if it doesn't add a beautiful layer of grit to the whole thing. I Love it.

Phil and I pass the script back and forth like a hot potato and tonight it's my turn to hack into it. It's been a while. Should be fun to get back into it.

Wanna see?

Let's Take a Cupid Break

I'm still wading around in the Bog of Eternal PITCH right now, but before too long I'm back to actual scripting. First thing on the agenda is to write the 5th and final chapter of CUPID.

It's a weird book (hopefully in a good way) crammed full of dialogue, character drama and pretty girls bringing each other coffee. Hopefully the thing will find its audience but at least I can guarantee the creators love it. Kevin and I are having so much fun putting this talking-headed beast together.

Here's hoping the last chapter is as emotionally draining/fun to write as the previous four.

Art anyone?

Try to tell me that doesn't look like fun.

Red Rum

Finally got a PROOF copy of the Murder City pitch printed up. Seems like all the design stuff is working. Now we just need to toss a bit more art into the back and make sure the written content is up to snuff.

Looks something like this:

Fairy Tale Cheeseburgers

I've never really written anything in the FAIRY TALE / FANTASY QUEST genre before and didn't know how much I was going to enjoy it.

Turns out, A LOT.

I'm about a week into plotting / pitch work on the Fast Food Fairy Tale book Chris and I are putting together and WOW. I can do anything in this world. So much fun.

How 'bout a little more art?

Sure thing.

Murder is the Case

I'm actually about ready to wrap up one of these bastards and get it sent out. This is one of many I'm co-creating with Kevin Mellon.

Just a tickle:

I'm excited to write this one so hopefully everything works out.

Eisner-Nominated collaborator and more

I'm in the process of putting together several new pitches right now. I'm learning to deal with it but it still feels odd to spend so much time doing something other than writing scripts.

On the upside, I get to see a bunch of new concept art from my artist friends.

The pitch I'm working on today is a weird little fairy tale my friend Chris Grine and I are putting together. Chris (who got an Eisner nomination for his Dark Horse book Chickenhare) draws creepy small-handed creatures and the creepy small-handed people who love them. I'm really enjoying his mock-ups and character designs.

They look a little something like this:

Bitchin, no?

More later.

Website Modernized

My wife does all of the work around here.

It's true.

So, it was up to her to make my website a little more update friendly. Today she reformatted my website to operate on my blogger template. Now all I have to do is blog and I create the illusion of a professional writer who updates his website.

I barely meet one of those criteria, but I am capable of posting a blog every now and again.

So, anyway... Thanks, Jess.
